Monstera Support Frame
I designed a fun and modular support structure to prop up my monstera plant to keep it from ripping out of the soil
In our current apartment, our monstera sits on top of our bookshelf, and was drooping low around the shelves due to this unideal position. I wanted to help prop it up, and so decided to design a support structure modeled roughly after castle ruins that could hold up the plant as new leaves grew, and give it a cool canopy effect. This project was doubly beneficial because as I began to plan out the branch placement, I noticed some of the roots were bring torn out of the soil from the weight of the drooping leaves!
The design work was fun, and I tried to make is aesthetically pleasing while trying to introduce randomness as exists in castle ruins. I made sure to include bare sections so that watering would still be easy, as well as a locking bar so that as the plant weight grows, the structure doesn’t risk toppling sideways. The structure is pressed into the soil with blades, and the top pieces lock in with a nice friction fit. The final version successfully distributes the monstera’s weight over the pot better, raises the leaves to give that canopy effect, and blends in with the plant quite nicely!
